Abstract
When designing products electronic and computer technology (PECT) developer may need to select the microcontroller (MCU), for example, as the product control system. The problem of MCU choice is very difficult multi-criteria task with significant number of criteria and alternative MCU for comparison. Researchers in this area have proposed various approaches to the solution of the tasks [1]-[3]. You can obtain satisfactory results, making selection on the basis of the engineer’s experience and intuition. However, the most rational choice with conflicting selection criteria and a large number of alternatives is provided when using formal methods and procedures of decision-making support. In addition, formal algorithm easily programmed, that allows to automate the MCU choice for PECT.
It is suggested to divide the MCU selection task on several consecutive phases, gradually converging space selection, and to solve private multicriteria task on the basis of the decision making methods application at each stage. Each of these methods has strict algorithm that will automate the entire process of choice MCU under the terms of the draft. The following main stages (phases) of the selection process are considered.
Phase 1. The expert group formation for the participation in the decision approval process on the MCU familiy choice. It is proposed to use the method of rank [4] at this stage. The person making the decision (PMD) selects the specialists to participate in the expert group, specifies the numeric evaluation of the expert’s competence on a scale of 1-10 [5]. The example of the competence factor computations is considered in the report.
Phase 2. The formation of criteria for the MCU family selection by the experts (Criteria Group 1) as the most significant from the entire list of operational, system, economic and production requirements to the developed PECT. The purpose of this phase is to create a minimum meaningful criteria set for further MCU families comparison. The illustrative list of criteria is composed on the basis of the study of the various research [1-3]. The selection procedure by criteria from this list carried out by experts is proposed. An example of group voting procedure for the inclusion of this or that criterion in the Group 1 is considered.
Phase 3. The criteria from the Group 1 weights definition carried out by experts. An example of criteria weight calculating on the basis of the method of rank is considered, by analogy with the calculations in phase 1.
Phase 4. The alternative MCU families ranking by the weighted criteria from Group 1 with definition of the most suitable family. The application procedure of experts voting is proposed to reduce the number of alternative families MCU up to a reasonable value. A selection example one of several MCU families on the basis of the method of analytical hierarchies [4] is considered.
Phase 5. Criteria formation and weights definition by experts for the MCU selection inside the family (Group criteria 2). The tasks of this phase are similar to the procedures in phase 2, 3.
Phase 6. The alternative MCU ranking according to the weighted criteria from Group 2 with the definition of the most suitable MCU. A numerical example of MCU selection is considered by analogy with the calculation in phase 4.
The step-by-step automation process of MCU selection in various PECT design is considered in the report. MCU list is significantly reducing at each phase as a result of the of decision-making support methods application, that ultimately leads to the task solution. The proposed approach allows you to bring the microcontroller selection procedure to sequence of the acceptable decision-making procedures. These procedures, as a rule, don't allow experts make errors and would also avoid the expert’s prejudgment in decision-making.
The methodology proposed for the MCU selection based on the formal procedures that enables you to automate the selection, taken in account many contradictory factors and the properties of a specific task that will allow to get ultimately more qualitative project decision.
