Abstract
An approach to analyze PLL jitter under noise excitations of the different origin is considered in the paper. Both device noise and switching noise can be captured by the proposed approach. It is shown that jitter evaluation is reduced to obtaining phase transfer functions from any circuit node to the PLL output. The modification of the known linear PLL macromodel taking into account phase spectrum aliasing in the frequency divider is obtained. Expressions for the evaluation of required phase transfer functions derived in the paper are based on the periodic AC simulation results of PLL blocks. Different approaches to the transform of the frequency divider electrical noise into its phase noise are discussed.
