Abstract
 The paper considers some historical events preceded to adaptive signal processing science, examples of adaptive filter applications, mathematical methods used in adaptive signal processing and some peculiarities of non-stationary signals adaptive filtering. The directions of further developments in adaptive signal processing theory and practice are discussed.
