Abstract
This paper provides an overview of major software and hardware methods for synchronization of processes in multicore systems. Considered in detail a way to synchronize, which is used in multi-core DSP cluster, developed in the R&D Center "ELVEES". The above synchronization method uses a small amount of shared memory with hardware support for synchronization primitives. The main problem of this method is - scalability, with the increasing number of cores it becomes more difficult to implement a centralized synchronization buffer. Proposed solution to the problem of scalability, is the distributed synchronization buffer. The analysis results of the impact on the performance of the proposed solution are shown. Also we present a method of improving the efficiency of the hardware synchronization based on FIFO queues.
